Money & Morals

I think this may be the first week that my #Poundtake weekly column and The Poundtake Podcast coincide. This week’s podcast is about kink culture and the rise of the digital sexual awakening. I recently found out one of my old hookups created an Onlyfans. Out of curiosity and hornieness, I subscribed. I still haven’t been laid in months due to Covid, and quite honestly, even if there wasn’t this virus going around, I’ve kind of let myself go and am kind of insecure at the moment. So reminiscing about an old friend was just what I needed. After watching a few vids, I had the bright idea to bring him on the podcast to talk about what finally made him pull the trigger. I told him I was browsing through his page for research purposes, and he was flattered and laughed. But what I got from our conversation was a lot more eye-opening and true to what a lot of young people are facing today in this climate. Hopefully, this column will allow you to be a little less judgmental to those who choose sex work as a means of income.

The year is 2020, and the United States has 230,000+ dead, millions of people unemployed, and we have a government that refuses to give relief to people in need. What are some people resorting to? The world’s oldest profession…okay, not prostitution…but sex work. My friend who used to be a bartender said that he was fired from two jobs because of the impacts the restrictions had on local businesses. His unemployment ran out and his bills piled up. What was left to do? I have to say the confidence it takes to all of sudden do light porn and have people pay for it is commendable. And let me assure you, he’s worth every penny! I asked him if it wasn’t for this shitty year, would he have considered starting one. “Probably not,” he said. It’s a means to an end for him and he said he took videos of his escapades before, so he might as well capitalize off of it. As empowering as that sounds it’s still upsetting it had to come to selling nudes or being homeless.

I don’t knock anyone’s hustle, nor do I look down on them for doing what they gotta do to survive. People would argue they’re selling their souls or valuing money over morals. I don’t believe that’s the case. Our bodies have always been the object of one’s attraction. Most people go to their favorite bar, not because of the half-off beer and friendly atmosphere; it’s usually the hired guns serving drinks behind the bar. So if you’re willing to buy an overpriced drink at a local establishment subscribe to someone’s fanpage and help a Thot directly.
