A group of Florida teens is being hailed as heroes for helping to save a man suffering a heart attack. Last month, 65-year-old Diego Fernandez-Delgado was stranded in Cooper City with a flat tire and his phone battery had died when he began experiencing severe chest pain and difficulty breathing. The teens, 16-year-olds Logan Royer and Cody Magrone and 17-year-old Brody Murray, had just finished a fishing trip and were heading to a nearby McDonald’s when they noticed him on the roadside.

After approaching to help with the tire, the students from Cooper City High School realized Fernandez-Delgado was in distress. One of the boys called 911 while the others stayed with him and continued checking on him until deputies and paramedics arrived. Body camera footage shows the teens helping the man while waiting for emergency responders.

Fernandez-Delgado was taken to a nearby hospital, where he underwent several procedures before later recovering at home. During a recent City Hall meeting, Cooper City officials honored Royer, Magrone, and Murray with a proclamation and standing ovation for their actions. Fernandez-Delgado attended the ceremony and thanked the teens personally. Reflecting on the incident, Royer says, “It doesn’t hurt to stop to help someone out at all.”
