Department Of Agriculture Using AC/DC To Protect Cattle

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is using drones equipped with thermal cameras and loudspeakers to protect cattle from wolf attacks in Oregon and California. The drones fly over areas where wolves pose a threat and play various sounds through speakers to scare them away from livestock. Surprisingly, the playlist includes AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" along with sounds of fireworks and gunshots.

However, the most effective deterrent isn't rock music or loud noises, it's the sound of humans yelling. Paul Wolf from the Agriculture Department explained that "the human voice was the strongest response out of all the other sounds that we were playing." The thermal cameras allow the drones to spot wolves even in poor visibility conditions, and once detected, they immediately start playing the scary sounds. The program has significantly reduced cattle deaths from wolf attacks in the targeted areas.
