As the school year comes to a close, some students are choosing to go out with another destructive social media trend.
The “challenge” involves shoving objects like “pencils and paperclips” into the USB ports of school-issued Chromebook computers.
This causes the devices to smoke or potentially even catch fire.
In some cases, schools have reportedly needed to evacuate to avoid dangers from flames or toxic fumes emitted from the burning devices.
There’s also a danger of lithium batteries exploding, offering another risk to nearby students.
