James Brown, a 26-year-old from Northumberland, UK, loved firefighters so much that he set his own house on fire twice in one night to see them in action. Unlike most arsonists who like fire, Brown was obsessed with the firefighters themselves, not the flames. He called the fire department to report a fire in his fuse box, and when they came, he started another fire.
Firefighters put out both small fires and cut off his electricity. In court, Brown admitted what he did, saying he wished he could be a firefighter. The judge called it an obsession and gave him a suspended prison sentence, meaning no jail time if he stays out of trouble. Brown’s lawyer said he feels very sorry and is getting help to stop his fixation. He hasn’t contacted the fire department since his arrest.
