Many popular home gadgets, from air fryers to smart TVs, may be collecting more of your data than you realize, according to a report from consumer group "Which?."
Their study found that some air fryers and smartwatches can track your precise location, record audio, and even send data to servers in other countries. "Smart tech manufacturers...collect data from consumers with little or no transparency," said Harry Rose, editor at "Which?."
Among the findings, some air fryers sent personal data to servers in China, while certain smart TVs required zipcodes or were linked to trackers from Facebook and Google.
Smart speakers also raised concerns; while Amazon and Google offer privacy controls, they still rely heavily on data tracking. "Which?" advises users to review device permissions, limit data sharing where possible, and read privacy policies to stay informed.
