Hall Of Fame Quarterback Bart Starr Dies

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback, coach and NFL Hall of Famer Bart Starr is dead at the age of 85.

Starr's family issued a statement announcing his death this morning. The family said while Starr may always be known for his success as the Packers quarterback, "his true legacy will always be the respectful manner in which he treated every person he met, his humble demeanor, and his generous spirit."

Starr passed away in Birmingham, Alabama. An exact cause of death hasn't been released, but Starr's health had been on the decline since he suffered a stroke while giving a speech in Madison, Wisconsin in 2012.

Starr was selected by the Packers with the 200th pick in the 1956 draft out of the University of Alabama. He led the team to six division titles, five NFL championships and two Super Bowl titles. Starr famously led the Packers to victory in the Ice Bowl in 1967 against the Dallas Cowboys, when he scored a touchdown on a quarterback sneak with seconds left in the game. The team ultimately retired his number 15 jersey. Starr also coached the Packers from 1975 to 1983, compiling a 52-76-3 record. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1977.
