The Chicago White Sox belted five home runs en route to an 8-2 victory over the Guardians, and ended Cleveland's six-game winning streak in a makeup game from August.
Lance Lynn earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out six batters in 6 1/3 innings. Five different White Sox players homered against Guardians' rookie Hunter Gaddis in his second career start. After Chicago scored three runs on a pair of home runs in the second, the Guardians cut the lead to 3-1 on back-to-back doubles between Andres Gimenez and Will Benson, scoring Gimenez. The White Sox scattered a home run in each of the next three innings to extend the lead to 7-1. Amed Rosario drove in Myles Straw on a single in the seventh for Cleveland's final run, but Jose Abreu countered with an RBI single in the ninth for the final score.
Despite the loss, the Guardians lead the season series against the White Sox 9-7, and these teams will meet again in Chicago next week for their final series. Tomorrow at 7:10 PM, the Guardians will begin a five-game series against the Minnesota Twins, while the White Sox will stay on the road for a divisional three-game series against the Detroit Tigers. Cleveland (76-66) is three games ahead of the White Sox (74-70) and 4.5 games ahead of the Twins (71-70).
