The Stanley Pup is returning for its third year on Monday (June 8th), bringing together 32 adoptable rescue dogs representing each of the NHL's 32 teams. The 90-minute broadcast, timed to coincide with the Stanley Cup Final, features the dogs competing in a friendly game with a puppy puck and a miniature rink. According to NHL Productions executive Matt Nicholson, the event aims to help both puppies and older dogs find homes.
This year's program will include comedian and "Saturday Night Live" cast member Kenan Thompson as a celebrity coach. Elias Weiss Friedman, known for the popular Instagram page The Dogist, will host adoption follow-up segments. Both dogs and cats featured in the event will be available for adoption through the Brandywine Valley SPCA.
The Stanley Pup will air at 9:30 pm ET on Monday on truTV and HBO Max. Additional broadcasts are scheduled on the NHL's YouTube channel on June 9th and on the NHL Network on June 10th at 8pm and 10:30pm ET. The event takes place alongside the Stanley Cup Final, which will see the Vegas Golden Knights taking on the Carolina Hurricanes.
