Tennis Star Tracks Down, Meets Boy Who Had Hat Snatched At US Open

After winning a match during the US Open last Thursday, Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak greeted fans and attempted to give his hat to a smiling boy. A now viral video shows Piotr Szczerek, a millionaire businessman from Poland, taking the cap from the boy and putting it in his bag, leaving the child visibly upset. The athlete was unaware of the incident at the time but later turned to social media to try and track down the young fan.

Over the weekend, Majchrzak reunited with the boy, identified only as Brock. The tennis star shook hands with the young fan and gave him a new hat and a bunch of swag. He shared the touching moment on social media, writing, “Hello World, Together with Brock we wish you a great day!”

Szczerek, who has supported children’s sports in the past, issued a public apology yesterday, writing that he’d “made a grave mistake.” He explained that in the excitement he thought the cap was meant for him and his sons, who had asked for autographs. He admitted the action looked deliberate, said he returned the hat, and apologized to the boy, his family, the fans, and Majchrzak himself.
