Principal Handwrites Letters, Gives $1 To All 443 Grads In Class Of 2025

At Summit High School in Mansfield, Texas, Principal Jason Mutterer was determined to make a lasting impact on all of the school’s graduates, so he wrote 443 letters by hand, one for each graduating senior, and included a single dollar bill in every envelope. Mutterer, known to students as “Coach Mutt,” presented the letters during their recent graduation ceremony as a personal message to each student.

“I've done a small act of kindness by providing each of you with a handwritten letter and a dollar,” he told the graduates. Although the dollar may have seemed like a small gesture, he believes that the impact of the 443 acts of kindness will create a ripple effect of positivity. The letters took over 24 hours to prepare, but he considered it time well spent.

Mutterer has spent his entire 23-year career in education at Summit High, beginning as a teacher and coach before becoming principal. He sees his parting gift as not just a goodbye, but a challenge for students to carry kindness forward.
