5-Year-Old Girl Saves Little Sister From Drowning In Pool

During a family vacation in Texas late last month, five-year-old Brooklynn Garth from St. Louis, Missouri, saved her three-year-old sister Callie from drowning. The little sister had just taken off her floaties and slipped into the pool unnoticed. Realizing Callie couldn’t swim without them, Brooklynn immediately jumped in and pulled her to safety.

The big sister’s quick action was especially remarkable given that she’s never had formal swim lessons. Her mother described the moment as terrifying and praised her bravery. Swim lessons are scheduled to begin next week for the young hero.

The rescue caught the attention of U.S. Congressman Wesley Bell, who surprised Brooklynn with a certificate of recognition and a resolution honoring her courage. She said she was both shocked and proud to receive the award. Bell plans to follow through on a promise to give her a tour of the Capitol.
