Boy Helps Grandma, Brothers Safely Escape Burning Home

A 12-year-old Virginia is being recognized as a hero after saving his family from a house fire earlier this week. On Tuesday morning, Ramir Parker, a rising seventh grader, smelled smoke and immediately alerted his grandmother. At first, he thought the smell might be from his younger brothers, but when he realized the danger, he acted quickly to get his one-year-old and two-year-old brothers and his grandmother out of the house.

As the Petersburg Fire Department arrived, they saw a large column of smoke from miles away. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control, which had spread through multiple floors of the home. Battalion Chief Braden Peter says the blaze was intense, and Fire Chief Wayne Hoover commended Ramir for his bravery.

Fire officials report that the cause of the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical issue on the lower floor. Chief Hoover says that Ramir’s actions were beyond what would be expected of someone his age and likely saved lives. The Petersburg Fire Department also expressed pride in Ramir and his quick thinking during the emergency.
