Woman Found Alive After Missing For 62 Years

If you’ve got a hankering for going off the grid entirely, you might want to take some notes from Audrey Backeberg.

In 1962, Backeberg was reported missing after hitchhiking with a babysitter from Reedsburg, Wisconsin, and then taking a bus to Indianapolis, where she was last seen.

Last week, a report from the Sauk County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office said that Backeberg had been found “alive and well” at the age of 82.

The discovery was made during an investigation of cold case files, and the investigation determined that there was no foul play and that Backeberg left “by her own choice.”
