Pennsylvania 27-year-old Kelsey Mikula turned her side hustle of reselling thrifted clothing into a full-time career, allowing her to pay off $80,000 in student loan debt in just three years. She first discovered reselling as a child and later realized she was making more money flipping secondhand fashion than working her hospital administration job. Now, she shares her knowledge on social media, inspiring others to explore reselling as a way to earn extra income.
Mikula currently spends about $1,800 on clothes each month, carefully researching items to make sure she’ll be able to turn a profit on them before listing them on platforms like Poshmark and eBay. She’s now taking in about $12-thousand of profit a month and attributes part of her success to the rising popularity of sustainable fashion and secondhand shopping, as more buyers learn to appreciate the convenience of curated thrift finds.
For those interested in reselling, Mikula advises starting with items they already own, including clothing and beauty products. She says anyone can begin by just selling unused belongings from their closet. By learning about online platforms and market demand, Mikula has turned a simple idea into a thriving business and changed her financial future in the process.
