Hudson Mail Carrier Saves 91-Year-Old Woman On His Route

A mail carrier in Hudson is being celebrated for saving the life of a 91-year-old woman on his route.

Chris Poa has been delivering mail and forming friendships with the seniors in his community for 29 years, including the elderly woman who enjoyed chatting with him from her porch. When he noticed recently that he hadn’t seen her in a few days, he grew concerned and decided to check in on her.

Poa went to the nonagenarian’s house, saw the tip of her foot through a window, and immediately called 911. Firefighters arrived and found the woman lying on the floor, unable to get up after a fall. She’d been there for two days, but thanks to her mailman’s vigilance and quick action, the woman was rescued in time and taken to the hospital, where she is now recovering.

The rescued woman turned out to be a close acquaintance of Hudson Fire Chief Jerry Varnes, making the rescue even more significant for the community. To honor Poa’s dedication and heroism, he was awarded the first-ever Hudson EMS Lifesaving Award. The woman's family expressed their heartfelt gratitude and said that the mail carrier’s actions very likely saved her life.
