A New York City doorman and two rookie EMTs recently rescued a newborn baby found abandoned on a sidewalk. EMTs Mia Chin and Patrick Feimer were ending their shift around 3 a.m. last Thursday when a man knocked on their ambulance window, alerting them to the infant. They found the baby boy, with the umbilical cord still attached, naked and alone under the High Line in Chelsea.
Although the EMT’s were relatively new to their roles, they relied on their training to provide immediate care for the baby. Chin mentions that her training was crucial in helping them act quickly.
Fire Department Commissioner Laura Kavanagh praised the EMTs for their roles in saving the newborn, calling them heroes. The baby was taken to a hospital and is now reportedly in good condition.
