Last week, firefighters in South Jordan, Utah, responded to a call when a resident fell from her ladder while decorating her home for the holidays. After she was taken to the hospital, firefighter Austin Rekoutis and his team realized that she hadn’t finished putting up her Christmas lights. Without hesitation, they quickly completed the woman’s holiday decorating.
Several neighbors caught the act of kindness and posted pictures to local community pages, garnering the firefighters some much-deserved attention. South Jordan Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Lessner expressed pride in their work. He says that South Jordan firefighters are always looking for ways to do good in the community.
Rekoutis hopes the injured woman is doing well and that she appreciates the small act of kindness. For him and his crew, moments like these are their favorite aspects of the job. "We show up to make somebody's day better," Rekoutis says, "That is the best part of the fire service."
