November is National Adoption Awareness Month, and a special celebration event in Viera, Florida, marked the occasion with 12 kids being officially adopted into new families. Organized by Brevard Family Partnership, the event at the Space Coast Stadium had 10 families welcoming the children into their lives.
Tears of joy flowed as the kids started their new lives with their adoptive families. Chekinaa Turner, who has had a long career as an adoption case manager, was overjoyed to become the new mother to two-year-old Josiah. She says that adopting him marked a "new birth" and "new day" for both of them.
Phil Scarpelli, the CEO of the Brevard Family Partnership adoption agency, who has helped hundreds of children find new families, called the moment life-changing. He says the adoptions aren’t just beneficial for the kids and their new families, but also good for the community.
