Jack Black stars in the upcoming live-action Minecraft movie and on Friday (March 21) shared a song from the film's soundtrack that features Dave Grohl. "I Feel Alive" is an '80s-inspired rock song that sees Black take on vocal duty while Grohl drums. The song was written by Black alongside writers/producers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. The movie's Danielle Brooks also lends vocals, while longtime Queens of the Stone Age member Troy Van Leeuwen plays guitar.
This isn't the first time the comedian and Foo Fighters frontman have collaborated together. Grohl played drums on some songs on Tenacious D’s 2001 self-titled debut and the entirety of their 2018 album Post-Apocalyptico. He's also performed with the band on several occasions. The duo last teamed up during Grohl's 2022 Hanukkah Sessions for a cover of “The Spirit of Radio” by Rush.
Both Black and Grohl have been laying low this year in terms of their musical careers. Tenacious D have been on hiatus since the band's Kyle Gass joked about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump over the summer. Foo Fighters also allegedly cancelled 2025 tour plans after Grohl revealed he welcomed a new baby outside his marriage in September.
A Minecraft Movie hits theaters on April 4 and features an original score from DEVO’s Mark Mothersbaugh. In addition to Black and Brooks, the movie also features Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, and more.
