VILLANOVA, PA--- The Lady Vikings unfortunately seen their historic 30 win season come to a close in the first round of the NCAA tournament with a 76-54 loss to number 4 seed Villanova Saturday evening.
This 30 win season for the 2022-2023 Vikings was the most wins in a single basketball season in school history, that's across both every women's team in school history, and every men's team in school history. The Villanova Wildcats were led by Maddy Siegrist, who leads the NCAA in scoring with 984 points, she also surpassed 1,000 career points finishing the game with a game leading 35 points, made 4 of her 5 free throws, and made 15 of her 28 field goal attempts. The Vikings were led by Destiny Leo who was the best free throw shooter in the Horizon League this year with a whopping 93% rate at the charity stripe, she scored almost all of the Vikings' first half points. She finished with 25 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and made all 6 of her free throws.
Going into next season the Vikings have a lot to look forward to and build from after making the "Big Dance". Big things are definitely on the horizon for Cleveland State.
