Melvin Gordon Ends Holdout, Arrives At Chargers Practice Facility

NFL Pro Bowl

Melvin Gordon's holdout for a new contract is over after 64 days. The Los Angeles Chargers running back reported to the team's practice facility on Thursday (September 26) after missing the first three games of the season. Gordon refused to show up for training camp after rejecting an offer that would have paid him roughly $10 million per year. He was seeking a long-term extension that would make him one of the league's highest-paid running backs.

Gordon will not play in the Chargers' week four game against the Miami Dolphins. He could be ready for their week five contest but will likely be held out until week six when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"I don't think you just walk in camp and just play right away without going through any practice," Chargers coach Anthony Lynn told reporters. "You can run and do all the drills you want, but it's hard to simulate real football."

Gordon is currently facing about $2.22 million in fines for refusing to show up for team activities dating back the start of training camp. He could also lose $989,118 worth of base salary for missing three regular-season games. He can still earn $4,615,882 if he plays out the rest of his contract.

Regardless of what happens during the season, Gordon is not expected to sign a long-term deal with the Chargers in the offseason.
