Alice in Chains Pay Tribute to Chris Cornell at Rock on the Range

Alice in Chains went deep into Soundgarden's catalog to honor the late rock icon and fellow Seattle native Chris Cornell.

Fans in attendance at this weekend's Rock on the Range festival captured footage of AIC running through "Hunted Down," which was the first single Soundgarden released in 1987, and "Boot Camp" from Soundgarden's 1996 album, Down on the Upside.

Neither guitarist Jerry Cantrell nor Alice in Chains frontman William DuVall mentioned the anniversary explicitly, though the lights behind the band spelled out "CC" and "SG" during the songs. Like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Nirvana, Alice in Chains rose to the mainstream from the heavy rock underground of Seattle in the early-'90s.

Watch some footage of the performance below.

Soundgarden was scheduled to perform at the 2017 Rock on the Range festival, but the band never made it to Columbus, OH, as Cornell died a day earlier in Detroit.

Cantrell previously paid tribute to Cornell at this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony by performing "Black Hole Sun" along with Heart's Ann Wilson — another Seattleite.
