(INDEPENDENCE) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers selected Kansas SG Andrew Wiggins with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday night.

Wiggins, 19, was the Big 12 Player of the Year at Kansas and was highly touted as the top freshman in college basketball.

Wiggins, similar to Bennett and Thompson is Canadian.

There was a thought that the Cavaliers might select Duke SF Jabari Parker or Kansas C Joel Imbiid, but Cleveland elected to go with Wiggins.

Wiggins averaged 17.1 ppg at Kansas while grabbing 5.9 rpg and making 34.1% of his free throws.

Wiggins is expected to be on hand in Cleveland for an introductory press conference on Friday.
