The Browns took another step during training camp on Sunday as the team had its first full practice in pads. Here are a few notes from the day.
-Sunday was a Red Zone day and the offense and defense both made plays that opened eyes. Coach Chudzinski talked about his quarterbacks decision making “Good ones for sure. Being the first day, everything is tighter. Obviously the space is tighter down there. Decisions have to be quicker.
Getting comfortable what we are doing from a scheme standpoint, because everything is quicker down there. These guys getting familiar with that and doing it and executing it and seeing it over and over again is the important thing. That is what we are looking for.”
-The Browns injuries basically had Montario Hardesty sitting out with a hamstring injury that will have him day to day as Chudzinski said he’s not concerned about him. But with Hardesty out Dion Lewis is opened some eyes “I thought he did a good job. He’s had a couple of good practices out there since pads have come on.
I think I stressed yesterday how with running backs it’s easier to see them and evaluate them when actual blocking schemes are happening. He’s had a good couple of days.”
-Desmond Bryant did not take many reps as he’s dealing with back spasms. He will be day to day as well.
-Tashaun Gipson has a sprained shoulder that happen on a collision with Josh Gordon on a pass play.
-With it being the first day in pads all had eyes on rookie Barkevious Mingo including Chudzinski “its great work for him. He flashed. I saw him getting around the edge on some guys. He had a nice counter move on his pass rush. It was a good day to see him and be able to get him in pads. You can see these guys in full speed, finally.”
-The team will hit the practice field on Monday before their first off day comes on Tuesday.
