Ashley Ober is 16 and deaf and she was a little anxious to be flying alone for the first time recently. But her mom, Loretta, knew her teen was in good hands when she got a text from her explaining that a flight attendant handed her a note on the plane.
The handwritten note was from a Delta flight attendant named Janna, who welcomed Ashley and explained that there are two overhead buttons, one to control the reading light and one to call her if she needs anything. Janna also explained where the emergency exits were located and let the young flyer know to ask if she needed anything.
Not only did the teen say the note made her feel more comfortable while traveling from Baltimore to Rochester, the note meant so much to her she kept it. “I’ve never experienced that kind of politeness before,” Ashley says. “It inspired me. I put it in my bag and it’s with me all the time.”
