#GoodNews: Mariska Hargitay Pauses Production To Help Girl Find Her Mom

Mariska Hargitay doesn’t just play a detective on TV, she’s helping to save people in real life, too. The star of “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” was filming an episode of the show in New York City last week when a little girl approached her for help, thinking Hargitay was a real police officer.

The actress was shooting one of the final episodes of the series’ 25th season on April 10th when the child came up to her, mistaking her for an actual officer because of her character’s badge. According to a witness, the little girl became separated from her mom in the Anne Loftus Playground in Fort Tryon Park and asked Hargitay for help. She agreed and production was stopped for 20 minutes to console the girl, find the mother, and reunite them.

It turns out the child was oblivious to the crew filming and to Ice-T, who was in the scene with Hargitay. But those decades of playing an NYPD cop paid off, as the kid could sense this was an adult who could help and once she was safely back with her mom, the SVU cast and crew got back to work.
