(Akron) - Pain management physician Dr. James Bressi has been cleared of 26 of the 27 charges against him in his Summit County sexual assault trial.

The 60-year old Stow physician was accused of forcing patients to touch his groin area during exams. Bressi was convicted of a single count of sexual imposition which is a misdemeanor.

Prosecutor Sheri Bevan Walsh said, “Based on the evidence presented in court, we are shocked at the verdict in this case. Our concern right now is for the numerous victims who came forward, and we commend them for their courage in doing so. We will continue to aggressively prosecute individuals who commit sexual assaults in this community, regardless of their profession or status in society.”

Bressi was an osteopathic doctor who specialized in pain management at Summa Pain Specialists in Stow.

Over 100 women came forward describing inappropriate sexual conduct by Bressi during pain management treatments from 2010-2013.

Eleven victims testified against him at his trial. During treatments, Bressi was accused of rubbing his genitalia on the victims or touching them inappropriately. Two women claimed digital penetration.

Bressi faces a maximum sentence of up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine. He may also be required to register as a Tier I Sexual Offender every year for the next 15 years.
