(Cleveland) - Cleveland Police have announced an arrest in the murder of 5 year old Jermani Brooks and the wounding of her mother in a Sunday night shooting on Cleveland's Crossburn Avenue.

Cleveland Police Chief Mike McGrath says they have taken 32 year old Geoffrey Gurkovich into custody.

Cleveland Police developed information Gurkovich was at a home in Newburg Heights.

They set up surveillance in the area and arrested Gurkovich about 10am Tuesday during a traffic stop after Gurkovich left the home.

Police investigators say Jermani and Noni Brooks were not the intended targets of Gurkovich.

Chief McGrath says they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Gurkovich was booked and locked up at the city jail.  He's expected to be charged Wednesday.
