(Shaker Heights) - Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Lance Mason is being held in the Shaker Heights city jail after he was charged Monday with Felonious Assault, with prosecutors saying Mason assaulted his wife, Aisha.

In an arraignment before Municipal Judge K.J. Montgomery, Mason's bond was set at $65,000, but he will not be freed until after a psychological exam.

Court documents show that Mason choked, bit and punched his wife in the face, fracturing one of her facial bones, and causing severe swelling and lacerations.

The court documents say a woman called 911 as she was getting off a Rapid train early Saturday morning, saying she saw a man attacking a woman inside an SUV along Van Aken Boulevard. The fight then continued until the Masons arrived at their home in Cleveland, so Cleveland police are also investigating along with Shaker Heights police.

Mason has been a judge in the Court of Common Pleas since 2008, before that serving as a state senator, state representative, and a district director for the late Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones. The Northeast Ohio Media Group says Mason and his wife were married in 1995 and have two children.
