(Cleveland) – A major downtown intersection will be closed this weekend to install the elevated walkway to the Horseshow Casino Cleveland.

The elevated walkway will connect the second floor of the casino to its dedicated parking structure. The finished walkway will span 175 feet diagonally over the intersection of Ontario Street and Prospect Avenue in downtown Cleveland’s Gateway District.

Workers will hoist the pre-constructed pedestrian walkway 16’–6” above street level. The walkway frame, which crews began erecting on the ground last month, will be lifted into place. Workers will secure the walkway to the second floor of the casino through an existing window, and to the second level of the parking structure.

Construction is expected to continue through the fall with the walkway opening in early 2014. Area street closures will be in effect this weekend to facilitate the work.

• The Ontario Street and Prospect Avenue intersection will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 18; the intersection will reopen by 6 a.m. on Mon., Oct. 21.

• Prospect Avenue between West 2nd Street and East 4th Street, as well as Ontario Street between Public Square and Huron Road, will also close at 6:30 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 18; the roads will reopen by 6 a.m. on Mon., Oct. 21.

After the walkway frame is suspended and secured this weekend, crews will continue their work over the coming weeks by affixing dozens of 15 foot-tall glass panels to the sides of the walkway exterior, followed by final interior finishes.

Guest lobbies at each end of the temperature-controlled walkway will be created inside the casino and the Collection Auto Group Centre, where guest services such as coat check will be offered.

Subsequent exterior walkway work may require temporary road and sidewalk closures, and will be minimized to evening and weekend hours.
