(Cleveland) - Sad news from the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office that spokesman Powell Caesar has died.

The 63-year-old Caesar passed away Memorial Day of a heart attack.

Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas P. Gilson said of the passing, "Like many of you who knew him, I feel a deep sense of loss, especially with the sudden and unexpected way in which we lost him." He passed away yesterday, Memorial Day, of a heart attack.

Gilson says, "His colleagues will remember him for his passion and hard work. We would like to extend our deepest condolences on behalf of the entire staff at Cuyahoga County."

“Powell was a remarkable man,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald. “His work was instilled with passion, pride, and class. It is important for all of us to take a moment to grieve the loss of an employee who was loved by his family, friends and colleagues.”

Caesar worked closely with Cleveland media for many years. In the past he was spokeserson for the Cleveland Chapter of the NAACP, Cleveland City Council and the City of Parma. He was with the Medical Examiner's office since October 2007.

Many of us at Newsradio WTAM 1100 worked with Powell over the years and feel that we have lost a true friend and colleague.

Caesar is survived by his wife, Shari.
