(Cleveland)- The Cleveland Police Department is investigating the shooting of a suspect in a routine traffic stop.

At 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle at W. 6th and St. Clair. The male driver tried to drive down a closed street and during the confrontation, the officer's weapon fired once, hitting the driver in the chest. The officer was not injured.

The driver was sent to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was treated and released. As of Sunday afternoon, the five-year veteran officer was placed on paid administrative leave pending investigation.
