(Cleveland) - The 14th annual Cleveland Peace and Freedom Rally was held at Huntington Park across the street from the Justice Center. It's also known as the Pot Fest.

Advocates for the legalization of marijuana conducted the festival. Folks signed petitions lobbying the state legislature to pass proposals to legalize marijuana for medicinal and other purposes. There was also music throughout the day.

Jerry Braseman, a member of the National Organization for the Repeal of Marijuana Laws says it's time for Ohio to follow other states and legalize the drug.

Braseman tells Newsradio WTAM 1100, there is an economic benefit to the normalization and legalization of pot. He contends, it's a material that farmers can grow to make industrial hemp, and doctors can used its medical benefits to treat a variety of ailments.

Sher Neufer of the Ohio Chapter of NORML blames Republicans for blocking legalization, and says the GOP should be about getting government out of people’s lives.

Others claim marijuana is safer than alcohol, and point to deadly car crashes and fatal shootings caused by too much drinking.
