(GOODYEAR, Ariz.) – The Indians completed a deal on Sunday morning that helped them acquire INF Justin Sellers from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Tribe sent cash to the Dodgers in exchange for Sellers.

In order to add Sellers to the 40-man roster, the club designated INF David Cooper for assignment. If Cooper clears waivers, he is expected to accept a non-roster spot with the Tribe.

Sellers, 28, has appeared in 82 games for the Dodgers over the last three seasons. In 89 games at Triple-A Albuquerque last season Sellers hit .270 with six home runs and 65 RBIs, along with 26 doubles. A versatile infielder, Sellers has had big league experience at third base, shortstop and second base.

The Cal State Fullerton alum began his professional career in 2005 with the Oakland Athletics.

Sellers is expected to come to Indians camp to provide depth and potentially compete for a spot on the club’s bench.
